At first glance July’s New Era magazine cover appears to be a translucent rainbow overlaying different LDS Temples. Is this just an artistic coincidence? Or is this a show of LDS Gay Pride?

There is no coincidence with the church. It is run like every other large organization, with well-planned events and well-penned words to match. Just you wait! The “what if” moment for the Church is coming sooner than later. Imagine this…”Hello Bishop, myself and my partner obey all the commandments and do not engage in any extramarital relations and are true to the Law of Chastity. We pay a full tithing, go to all our meetings and have both served missions. BYU was the greatest four years (outside of our missions) that we have ever spent. We love each other and desire to be married in the Temple. We seek approval for a Temple marriage. Can you help us?”
First thing to understand: Millennials will walk out and no longer listen when someone says, “Same Sex Marriage is a sin”. They simply tune them out. Second, the future of the church is found in the youth. The Church cannot afford to bleed 18+ like it has. Is the Church going to accept SSM? Yes. It was never going to give up polygamy. It was never going to give Blacks the Priesthood. But social pressure is crushing to the Church. Give it 10 years. We’ll talk again then.
I believe the Church surely knew which way the S. Court would rule and what significance the rainbow would have once it did.
So the real question is why would the Church be encouraging it’s members to support SSM?
Unless the Church plans to do another 180 & support it soon, once most members support it or the government forces them to do so, or they would lose money.
I prefer to think of this when I see a rainbow:
JST, Genesis 9:21–25.
Compare Genesis 9:16–17
21 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant, which I made unto thy father Enoch; that, when men should keep all my commandments, Zion should again come on the earth, the city of Enoch which I have caught up unto myself.
22 And this is mine everlasting covenant, that when thy posterity shall embrace the truth, and look upward, then shall Zion look downward, and all the heavens shall shake with gladness, and the earth shall tremble with joy;
23 And the general assembly of the church of the firstborn shall come down out of heaven, and possess the earth, and shall have place until the end come. And this is mine everlasting covenant, which I made with thy father Enoch.
24 And the bow shall be in the cloud, and I will establish my covenant unto thee, which I have made between me and thee, for every living creature of all flesh that shall be upon the earth.
25 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant which I have established between me and thee; for all flesh that shall be upon the earth.
Once again, satan steals one of the Lord’s beautiful symbols and assigns his own meaning.
Fortunately the Lord will be cleansing His church very soon through the resurrecged Joseph Smith. “….millions shall know Brother Joseph again.”
Check out the cover of the “Friend” as well. Two kids are watching construction of a new temple which has a rainbow halo around the spire.
I checked the church website and they only have a small thumbnail image of the magazine cover. Do you have a URL where a larger version can be seen Diane?
Thanks!
